News from the Field – November 2023

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
Isaiah 43:2

Rapid Response Teams
Imagine…in Muçum, Brazil you wake up to your family members scrambling to get everyone out of the house and headed for high ground. You then watch as a river that has never reached your home before, washes away most of your town. In the aftermath of disasters like this children are left largely to fend for themselves as the adults get about the work of survival, searching for loved ones, and clean up.

Through a partnership with the Christian rescue and recovery mission, “SOS Global Brasil,” Open Arms deployed a four man Rapid Response Team to answer the call. They made the 18 hour drive to Muçum where they ministered the love of Jesus to kids who have been traumatized by this natural disaster and assisted with initial recovery efforts. The other objective of their mission was to assess the most pressing needs of the local population and local churches, and communicate those back to partner organizations who will come alongside with those resources for the long haul.

Having trained teams that can be ready at a moments notice to serve children and families in the name of Jesus is only possible because we have amazing supporters. Supporters who believe in them and in our mission, and are willing to invest for the love of God in the name of Jesus. Their generosity fuels mission readiness and we are thankful for each of them.

If you haven’t already, consider joining us as a regular ministry partner.
